🚨 Deflation in China has hit its sixth consecutive quarter in the latest reading of 2024 This is the longest stretch since 1999. Monetary and fiscal stimuli from China’s Central Bank aren’t working, and the market continues to cool. Although this is, by nature, a market normalization mechanism after a long period of systematic leverage, today’s economic literature views deflation as something to be combated. Therefore, we can expect to see more monetary stimulus from the PBoC, which is likely to intensify even further toward the end of the year. https://image.nostr.build/abb4e6d4a2e4cd34599c296cc34dbebe90d6361e487cd5870548074a69624e10.jpg
But what kind of deflation is this? Is this deflation from a decrease in production of the items consumed to satisfy a human requirement or is it deflation as a consequence of technological progress that enabled things to get sold for cheaper?
