The key (no pun intended) is ownership and control. Someone, or some group, owns and controls a key. That key can cryptographically sign messages, and no company or entity can use or block that key from doing so. At best, some may prevent your events from appearing on their relays or clients, but that’s it.
do you find it an issue that nsecs are too complex to remember, like a password or 12/24 set of words would be?
I have so many passwords at this point in life I can’t remember any of them so this is no different 😂 Just another random string of numbers and letters that I save in enough places that I won’t lose it.
yeah, but you can't cross the border without any possessions and still remember it by heart
like you can with your seed phrase
My old notes are not as valuable as my sats. If it truly came to that a new nsec is a viable solution.
it's also the socialgraph
Those who truly care enough would eventually reconnect and recreate a social graph. Wouldn’t be ideal or convenient, but it’s not completely catastrophic. Losing access to a bitcoin key completely prevents you from ever spending those coins. Not the same loss of access.
oh yeah, i definitely agree with that 💜
Humans aren't as fungible as Bitcoin is.
