How do you have a democracy when a third of the population ache to have an authoritarian theocracy, another third would be kinda ok with an autocracy, and the bulk of the media carry water for them?

That is the question of the decade. For all the criticism JRB gets for not doing enough or for the drilling lease etc., he is walking a tightrope better than anyone else I can imagine.
The way to defang the traitors is  cut off their funding from the bigger traitors who own them. The wealth tax could help with that, but passing it requires winning more seats which their money makes a major challenge.
