I love seeing new CPRs (Centralized Platform Refugees) come over to Nostr.
I love the initial enthusiasm as the realization hits that this protocol is radically different from everything they are used to.
I love the nonstop note-posting when they first join.
But…
Sadly, many do not last.
They can’t get the same dopamine fix on Nostr that the centralized platforms deliver so effectively…
They are free, and yet they yearn to return to their cage.
But that’s okay. Everyone is free to do what they want, and Nostr will be here (and better than ever) when they eventually return. And they WILL return.
So, cheers to those of you that continue showing up on Nostr every single day, posting your thoughts, sharing your lives, sharing your art, sharing your music, sharing your podcasts, sharing your memes, sharing your feet, hosting meatspace conferences, and engaging in meaningful conversations with this small but powerful network.
You know who you are 🫂
And of course, cheers to the people who make all of this possible: the developers who write the code that allows all of us to have this incredible experience
Nostr is just getting started.
You’re all the dopamine I need
Sometimes it will take a few visits with months in between to finally get it. We are not going to redefine social media in a short time period.
Just tag me and we start discussing 🤼
‘Sharing your feet’ 😂💯🫂
Had to throw that in there for @Derek Ross
I don't have a foot fetish but the more you keep saying this I'm starting to wonder if I do? 🤔😂
Acceptance is part of moving on to being ok 😂.
I was here. Then I left. Now I’m back 🤷♂️
I can almost smell the term bouncestr
I'm 5 days into #nostr (still a clunky user of primal but working thru it) with 9 followers including @ODELL and 1 zap from @nico. I have enough dopamine fix for the next 21 months .
hello! And I'm also new here... shall we exchange following each other?
Followed!
Thanks for reaching out.
You matter.
Followed. Great metal band 🤌🤌
What happens when we come for the real connections and the dopamine detox? Just needed another nudge from global elites. We can count on them to remind us to fight for our individual liberties.
Welcome nostr:nprofile1qqswrjs47y2fauxwc3w4v53zcgg3hpfj0m09xdt6t388c0shzpd2p7spzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgqgjwaehxw309ac82unsd3jhqct89ejhxqg5waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t0zad74e
Education model or metal band reference?
Followed because I’m glad you’re here..
😅 Sounds like a productive start! Welcome!
And I'm about the same amount of time in. So far I've called out @CARLA, @walker, @nico, received zero zaps (I don't want any) and only 1 follow back from a nice farmer account. And useless flex (that I won't substantiate) but I've been in Bitcoin longer than any of the accounts I named above unless they also go back to first half of 2011. I'm not getting any dopamine rush from this place (nor do I want one) and I'm actually finding it quite culty.
Welcome to Nostr and the decentralized social future 🫂💜🤙🏻
#Zap and welcome feom Cape Town 🌍🇿🇦
I have way more fun on Nostr than I ever did on any legacy social. It takes a bit of work to gain a following and good follows so maybe harder for introverts or people who are a bit less creative or don’t enjoy writing. But a lot better user experience here after getting settled.
I don't think it's the lack of dopamine hits that is the problem they have with nostr. At least that's not the case for me. It's just a narrow spectrum. The majority of the content is bitcoin and nostr related. I look forward to what it will become, especially the use cases that aren't social media.
I'm here to stay. I just want to be fully done with youtube next. Digging in on flare to see how I can accelerate that process.
I may not post every single day, but I'm here to stay and learn. ✍️🤓
nostr for ever! feels more real than anything else... doesnt grab your attetion like other cpr's. Does feel more meaningful and getting zaps is amazing and better than likes 👍. There is much room for improvement but its already better than last year! 😉
About the dopamine fix:
I am not the biggest fan of dismissing this as something negative and without value. As Paracelsus said "The dose makes the poison". There is something incredible important about regular dopamine fixes for staying engaged and motivated. Having too much dopamine fixes (=twitter) is just as bad as not getting enough (=potentially Nostr). A healthy middle.-ground would be nice.
We (Nostr-advocates) like to point out that Nostr is different from all other social medias in that the user is the algorithm and kind of responsible for making sure he sees the content that interests him/her. Imo, this is not the best way forward and is self-serving but does not lead to the biggest Nostr-gowth. There is a reason why products that offer the best convenience mostly win in the marketplace of ideas.
I thus believe that we actually do need content algorithms for Nostr. But make their rules transparent, make them free to opt-in or out and switch between different algorithms. What I would like to see is a Nostr client like Primal or Damus giving me a menu option to activate "Content algorithm A vs. B. vs C" with each of them providing a different experience (e.g. A=wide net based on all recent posts that have similar content/topics as the posts I liked the most in the last month, B=net based on all the followers that overlap between the people I also follow and have posted the most in the last week, and so on ) . If one is inclined to so so, maybe even provide a checklist of aspects a Nostr-user can activate that then result in a user-specific algorithm that the client software generates.
#damus #primal #nostr #algorithm #engagement
The issue is that gaming such trending algorithms would probably be even easier (and by a lot) than no mainstream social media.
you mean because everyone could see them and would thus know how to game them (whereas no one knows twitter's algorithm)?
Most will prefer their slowly boiling water until they’re a nearly fully cooked frog sadly
> They can’t get the same dopamine fix on Nostr that the centralized platforms deliver so effectively…
That is an extremely gracious way to say being on Nostr is a shitty experience for most.
The excitement is always strong in the beginning! I’m sure 20-30% will stay, the rest will revisit when more authoritarianism creeps in.
I came back for the 3rd time but im here for it

To be free must be learned, scary stuff 😄
This is so true
