Really sexy would be a conversation heatmap, where you could see the intensity and scope of a discussion-cluster. Maybe even including replies to quoted notes, in addition to the original note and its replies.

A visual way of tracking "where the humans at".

How about them apples?
To prevent gaming the algorithm, you'd want filters to cut out notes below a certain length that are more likely to be bots (remember "Happy New Year"?).

It would be really cool to do a social graph visualization that shows which notes are seeing the most interaction.
Yes, I mention that in the other comment. Nothing short or too repetitive or similar. "GM" "Good morning" "Hi" "Yo" is all the same thing.

You would also want to filter out anything too reply-guy-ish. Sometimes discussions break out in GM threads, but sometimes it's just a string of GMs, so you'd filter out the second type.
Here is another example. This note shot up into the trends, but it has a flat structure and the original poster has never replied or written anything else. No human interaction, despite so many replies. We all just look silly.

Send me to a note freaks are fuckin with right now- button
"Yo, where can I get my chat on?"- button.
"Where da hos at?"- button. LOL
"Where da party at?" - button
 PERFECTION
Well, that's what nostr.band has done, but my idea is a novel type.

Patent it. 😂
What do you think of something like what's described here, some sort of way to find lively discussion clusters?

Not sure if a bot which links to lively discussions counts as an algorithm but I would definitely welcome that sort of discovery injection on my timeline #discuss
#asknostr fao: bot makers lol

One thing reddit did well: hot, new, top, controversial.

Agree, and the controversial space is especially interesting
do they still not have a mute button on profiles in reddit?
how did they determine what was controversial? ratio of likes/dislikes? topic? mixture? not sure I care so much about 'controversial' per say. But 'lively', I think 'lively' encompasses that too tho
 I suppose (likes vs dislikes)*activity.
I haven't used reddit for a long time, but controversial topics usually contain interesting insights.
i've never really used reddit outside of product recommendations / reviews, searched via google
I would like something like.. #👀

I tried to make Discuss community and suggesting the #discuss hashtag as a sort of human curated version, but some bot / automation would be great, and/or the conversation heat map aforementioned from quoted user
