Any recommendations for a Reddit-like forum with communities built on #nostr?
It's not built on #Nostr but it's built on the #fediverse called #Lemmy
Any good - any do people actually use it?
You could try with https://vger.app no installation needed. Just choose one of the instances provided and see.
Sadly Lemmy is a disappointing carcass of what could've been. Political agendas, defederation and power-tripping admins are the death of it. Lemmy's user interface is countless times better than most Nostr clients, but at least on Nostr we can say whatever the fuck we want without getting banned. Eventually more Reddit-like Nostr clients will mature.
It would be really cool if #Nostr had something kind of like Reddit
Much needed. Reddit is woke and anti free speech.
satellite.earth and nostrudel.ninjas do communities to a somewhat bearable level, they'll get better. A month ago nostrudel wasn't really a thing at all, for example.
Curious - how do they make a community on Nostr? Is it just a relay?
Relays just carry notes, clients need to interpret those notes so that they make sense. satellite.earth and nostrudel.ninja have additional smarts to assign notes to communities etc, other clients just show them as normal notes and don't feature communities at all. Relays don't really play a part in it, they just carry data. Clients are the ones that make sense of it. You can think of relays as being a distributed database.
