Why?
You’d need to run a full Bitcoin node on the phone
Because of the realities of the lightning network. It works best if you’re running a node on a box that is always online to accept inbound liquidity and to route payments. Trying to be some kind of lightweight node with bad/offline liquidity and relying is LSPs is so janky and will just lead to a worse experience vs running your own node. My lightning experience is insanely pleasant, it’s sad to see people try to use lightning the way it’s not meant to be used and getting frustrated when payments get stuck.
Interesting. I’m just starting my lightning education. Turnkey solutions like voltage flow seem promising though turnkey almost never is. Or comes with serious trade offs not discussed in the sales material. Are you generally short LSP use? Also I thought @matt LDK is developed with mobile first in mind. I’ll be the first to admit I’m at the connecting dots phase and these questions may be disparate or nonsensical
I have always been node running maxi but realize it’s not for everyone. This is why I contributed to CLN for a year or so and worked on libraries to make it easier to build lightning apps for CLN. I also am an advocate of using tech in the way that makes the most sense. Non custodial Lightning doesn’t make sense on mobile and I will die on this hill.

Do you use Phoenix wallet ever?
Relies on a single server to work. I don’t feel good about that. It’s not hard for me to use my own node so i just use that. I also want a reliable connection anywhere I am, so I had to build an iOS app to achieve this. I’m not the average user 😅
This is true. The technical crowd can install graphene and try to do dyndns to a mobile, but even with ipv6, aren't mobile networks still blocking ingress (inbound) ports?

I don’t understand it well enough 😂 Functionally it is arguably a lightning node on your phone that can send and receive zaps, and it’s self custodial. But uses liquidity providers and stuff. It’s pretty close to what you’re asking though… i think

No. ALBY can connect to Nostr directly using nwc Mutiny can also connect to Nostr directly using nwc. I don't believe you can use both at the same time? I don't personally use nwc. I've tried it. But tbh I don't like 1 tap zaps. I like seeing my balance before and after izap. I like choosing which wallet I'm zapping from if one is bearing full or whatever the fuck. But! No when I tried it it's like a direct key from mutiny to Nostr. And you get zapped straight in to your wallet. And you zap straight out. And when you go to mutiny later you have a list of charges to approve 🤷🏽

I can't do it. I need some interference. I need some hoops to jump through to feel like if someone got into my phone they couldn't just have everything 🤷🏽 I like clicking Zeus and typing my passcode 🤷🏽 or clicking phoenix because I know I just got paid there so I have extra funds. Etc.
Nodeless is good and it's not going anywhere. But it can only receive and it doesn't kyc .

Ahh Interesting So if I connected nodeless it's through nwc? It would receive, send to my address of choice... then when I click the zap button what would happen? It'll still take me to the choose wallet to zap with thing that my android currently does? Or would amethyst try to zap with nodeless and fail?

I have to test this out… I want to go non custodial for zaps but was waiting for mutiny to be able to receive. Do you know if you have to approve for receiving ?(the same way you approve for sending)

im curious ab this too i heard it has smth to do w a ln node having to be online 24/7 and with a ln node on your phone, the way it's structured it doesnt allow this yet or something but people are saying Mutiny wallet + NWC is the answer.. havent tried it yet myself
🤷🏻♂️ this is why no one normal uses this stuff. Everything is so vague Kinda doesn’t make any sense for being 5+ years old already But it works kinda most of the time I’ve never had so many issues trying to send bitcoin until trying to use LN 🤷🏻♂️

I run several nodes & for several years. I personally gave up running a LN node on my rpi umbrel. Fucking worst software experience ever. No help in any shape from anyone to help out with lost funds because LND not giving me a full set off seed word to recover funds. "Just read this fucking long ass blog" Great help community thanks a bunch. I honestly probably won’t try to run one again.
