Foreign lands turn hunting ground for CXO search companies

Large Indian companies and MNCs are expanding their CEO and CXO searches globally, with a focus on specialist roles in high-tech sectors like automotive and pharmaceuticals. The searches are driven by the need for professionals with expertise in data centers, cloud computing, EV technologies, and a keen understanding of global markets. The demand for returning Indians with international experience is increasing, particularly in areas such as digital transformation, ESG, sustainability, green hydrogen, solar, EV, and financial services. The trend is also fueled by the acute demand-supply mismatch in the leadership talent market and the need to hire for specialist roles in various industries. About 30-50% of CXO searches in the last six to 18 months have been looking at potential global candidates, up from 10-15% a few years ago. Leadership search firms are reaching out to candidates in Singapore, the US, Canada, London, and the Middle East. The rising demand for global talent pool of Indians is evident, with about one in three leadership searches being global. The preference for global professionals extends to technology, HR, and other functions as well.
