Let's ask @Lou @S!ayer @ODELL @tigs @Jor @Notoshi⚡ @BTCsessions @NoGood ✌️ @nickydev to name a few. Would love to see the content on nostr videos (but more live content would be cool too) Streaming, videos and clips isn't gonna grew by itself on nostr. So creators should take the "being early" approach.
I forgot to add @walker who's setting a great example by at least making his video content available (natively) on nostr by uploading his content to flare.
Yes!! https://flare.pub is massively underated too I feel.

My experience on zap stream has been incredible. I am slowly trying to move the YouTubers over and it's been a success so far. It's perfect for new streamers who don't have their 1000 subs / 4000 watch hours. You can start earning a return on Day 1. I've been streaming every day on zap stream and I can confidently say that I've made more on zap stream (in about 25% of the time) than I have on YouTube - with no censoring, no fees (other than streaming), and no KYC The amount YouTube pays their creators is fucking criminal - and they take 25% off the top for taxes The only downside to ZS is the streaming fees. But they're providing a great service and should be compensated for what they've built. I have zero issues paying a streaming fee. And the best part is that you get bitcoin instead of fiat It's a no-brainer for anyone creating content
Ive been streaming on zs since day one. I’ve watched the site grow and develop to the nice looking layout (and still getting better) of what it looks today. My take on it might be kind of controversial. But I don’t think the site will grow significantly (in terms of users) in the short term. No matter how much publicity it gets, YouTube is the first one that people will go to. Slowly but surely, YouTube will drive itself out of the road, and people will come in due time, either to zapstream or other alternatives. That being said. The site has immense potential, if you’re consistent you can get tons of sats, sometimes might be less, sometimes might be more, so is the nature of tipping. You either need to have a massive amount of followers that tip you, or have a less followers but that are constantly tipping to turn a profit. IMO it will be nice to implement a revenue stream per minute (like fountain has) per each minute 10 sats will be sent to the streamer (for the sake of example) and this ofc will have to be configured by the streamer for more “premium” or “personalized” content. Overall, I think is a great alternative for a hobby or if you’re streaming In twitch or other sites, at least make zapstream one of those. You can even restream from zap.stream to the other platforms if you so choose.
A streaming sats per minute or hour type thing could be really cool. The major perk of subscribing to networks like Twitch or Patreon is you get 'insider' access to their Discord, Movie Nights, Game Nights, Coop Nights, etc etc. The concept of community with twitch streamers is fucking gigantic to be brunt. Every streamer has their own Discord to announce when Live, schedule, alot of stuff like that. Obviously the nostr-discord beater would be key here. 👀 on keychat and the stuff JeffG is working on! @HiveTalk could be a great way to create a nostr based voice+video chat community on Nostr but screensharing games is a bit of a nuisance currently sadly. (Virtual audio drivers and alot of configuration is required to get it to somewhat work) - The screensharing aspect though for browsers n such works perfectly as does voice! I have the utmost faith that @BITKARROT will get these issues sorted. Kinda brainstorming / freethinking of nostr-centric sites which could accommodate extra features for those who pay the toll I guess. Perhaps if streaming sats/min or /5mins etc then perhaps an hour or two of zapping or a minimum amount of sats can give you more 'privileged' access to areas? Personally I'm not a fan of the subscription model but I can 100% understand streamers from twitch needing that kind of model to feel like they can survive on ZS alone or any nostr V4V model. The thing is they may stream to zap.stream, they may get their audience all here, BUT they have to onboard every single user to the concept of lightning, zaps, and V4V if they want to see sats flow their way. It's like the concept of Nostr MUST go hand in hand with lightning and zapping being the only way. I prefer it this way myself but I can imagine SO many streamers not understanding this concept and wanting fiat onramp/offramp rails tremendously. Got more to think and talk about I'm sure, just need to let the candle strike.
Not sure how long I've been streaming to zap.stream for but it's been a fair while! Although I'm usually a once a week or once a fortnight type of streamer who doesn't doxx themselves on camera n such really yet. I'm not that shy of the camera, it's just that I'm usually smoking joints or something so it probably would look more professional if I didn't showcase that live 😂 Very cool site imo.. it could use alot of work still in some tiny regards but for live streaming games... works quite nice. I have a cloudflare account which I stream to through OBS, that then gives me a m3u/hls (? I forget which) stream link which I plug into zap.stream and presto... really. Cloudflare allows me to select multiple output RTMP servers too which makes streaming to Twitch and other platforms a sinch. If I was a hardcore influencer I would probably still try to release all my content on as many platforms as possible... but I would aim to release everything on nostr first, then eventually, nostr only. Need to really aim to learn video editing I feel to really push my brand more although I never got into streaming to influence others or to become a partner with a big computer peripheral company or anything. Purely to stream the latest games in as highest fidelity as possible to an audience that can zap me 😃 A twitch donation is nice n all but I still value 21 sats over $5 in fiat that goes through the PayPal Mafia and other 3rd party methods.😂 Have been trying to get people over to Zap.Stream or even to introduce the idea and sadly too many just visit the site, see there's only a handful of streamers active then quit sadly. They don't see the long-term growth of their brand which could easily become the forefront of nostr live streaming.
Thanks for sharing! As for Twitch, glad I've dropped the site. They basically take half the money people donate to creators while they're telling people what they can or cannot do with their screen real estate or with their content. Add the KYC and "tax interviews" to it and you start to realise that everyone is earning on your content BUT you and those who support your channel are basically supporting the IRS and Twitch's revenue. I rather stream to less people for less sats on zapstream and keep 100% or better, fund the streams with the sats received.
Found the setup to be pretty easy (I use a service called Restream to send out to all the legacy platforms, so it gives an option to set a custom destination - which I just copied and pasted the info from zap.stream After that, zero maintenance other than having some sats in my account!
Restream is great. I used their service when I was still streaming across legacy sites. I now use zapstream's free restreaming to push the stream to Trovo and to YT to store past streams for free.
I would like the ability to customize a channel specifically for Nostr - including playlists of tutorials, live streams, etc Does this currently exist or is anything being worked on like it?
I like that idea. Definitely a great thought Ben
You can get a zapstream vanity url like zap.stream/btcsessions as permanent url for streaming on ZS and your profile should already display past streams (if you use the best plan) and videos or shorts. However at this point you cannot customize any playlists. Good suggestion though.
@Tico 🇨🇷 knows everything @BTCsessions
I used restream too for one month but found it too costly. In the end I settled with cloudflare as I could point that to every RTMP server without worry and the quality and bandwidth speeds were top notch. Really cheap too at like $5 a month instead of Restream being $15-30! My want to go solution is to find a github repo with it's own RTMP hosting solution that might work on an old PC or a Raspi4!
You turned comment into a dope thread. Thank you. Cc @zap.stream @Kieran
