The Bombay High Court in Mumbai has ruled that sleep is a basic human requirement and cannot be violated. The court made this statement while hearing a plea by 64-year-old Ram Issrani, who challenged his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. The court dismissed his plea but disapproved of his questioning throughout the night. Lack of sleep affects a person’s health and cognitive skills, according to the court. The court directed the ED to issue a circular on timings to conduct questionings when summons are issued. The matter has been posted for compliance on September 9.
