description

My approach to description is that I rarely write paragraphs of straight description. Instead, it’s mixed with the POV character’s perceptions & state of mind.

It’s done for pacing, but also so, rather than digesting unbroken & dull description, the reader is barely aware they're digesting a sense of a place.

This excerpt, I hope, conveys, not just Riparia’s surroundings, but also how her mood is coloring her perceptions.
