i played baseball before i was 4. parents would kick us out of the house and I would go miles away and spend the day playing ball, so would the other kids

 we would rip the fuzz off a tennis ball and also set up on the streets outside

your hand would be the bat and everyone had to field on a street full of potholes and a rubbery ball... you get good at hand eye contact and fielding 😄

 I love this. it’s so much better than what we miscreant kids did where I grew up. though I did ride my bike down to the different bays around us with my fishing pole to catch fish all the time. 🎣

 both are great! ours was born out of necessity and it seems like yours was more joy/adventure driven
