Slack, mattermost, telegram, WhatsApp… I’m seriously considering messenger pigeons at this point 

 I've never used slack but I hate emails more everyday.

 The problem with chat is it's like reply-all on every message to the whole company. 

 That's why you post to different topic channels with different members, and not to "general".

Our company has an e-mail plague and it's the same thing, but more tedious because you have to set up inbox filters. 

 slack and jira. my daily hell. 

 slack is like constantly getting cc'd / bcc'd into an entire companys worth of email 

 Teams is way worse. 

 What do you dislike about it? 

 Need a nostr/matrix plugin 

 Oldie but a goodie.  Tried and true. Battle tested.  It's too bag that they had to centralize email within a hand full of companies thanks to all the spam/scams that avalanched into it.

 I waiver between the long-form email with action items clearly marked, etc. andthe professional yet pithy equivalent of "let's discuss."

I think for me the worst aspect of Slack, and pretty much every chat application like it, is that it's so invasive on my attention. They are all guilty of this, so I can't say it's just Slack.

 haha. also Microsoft Teams is the same. just another app to distract me during the workday. Microsoft should just kill teams entirely and just create an all-in-one app that does email, chat, and videoconferencing (i.e., Outlook+). 

 Hol up. Sorry but email blows, period. Over complicated, close to no privacy, convoluted, extraordinarily centralized, censored by ISPs (hosting your own), unequal message/spam/security treatment from big tech email providers. Plaintext by default, server to server plaintext. Uses dns to provide basic security/integrity/spam prevention, that big tech providers regularly ignore. At best unencrypted smtp metadata. Its a hot disgusting mess. Foss servers are dying every day, there are so few foss imap clients that actually function, have modern features and are even close to regularly updated.
