Friends, if a small foundry wants to do a mailinglist, mailchimp? alternatives?
@e0c5bcea Buttondown seems to fit better with the low-tracking, non-corpo philosophy. A bit pricey if you want it white-label, but not unreasonable
@e0c5bcea I would recommend Ghost, https://ghost.org/ which is priced well for smaller lists. (You could use it just for email if you don't want the posts/emails to be published online.)
@e0c5bcea I’ve been happy with @8b7c4fc5 and they are very responsive to my questions.
@e0c5bcea We've been using Campaign Monitor since we first started sending newsletters and have mostly been happy with it. It's very flexible with design and content, and doesn't require their branding to be included. The pricing is pretty reasonable and you can turn off all tracking, though they don't really like that…
@e0c5bcea Both small, independent type foundries I have worked for have used the chimp, no complaints
@e0c5bcea We used Campaign Monitor. It’s… fine. The main problem is inflexible design, but that’s just a symptom of email in general.

You’ll want to check what darkmode on iOS gmail does to your images and layout… it will automatically invert your colours regardless of whether they're dark or not.
@e0c5bcea i use zoho campaigns because one list I have is small enough that this keeps mails free (but list is too big for free chimp). I use mailerlite because another list is large enough but I don't mail often, so price is reasonable for me. Can upgrade and downgrade easily, too.
@e0c5bcea I’ve used (and designed for) Mailchimp extensively and would not recommend it. I’ve also worked with Campaign Monitor a fair amount and also had many issues with it.

I'm in the process of (finally) setting up up an email list for @36062c96 and am using @8b7c4fc5 for its relative simplicity and refreshingly non-corporate, privacy-friendly, non-dystopian business model.
@e0c5bcea Really wish there was a mailing list service for lists that send mail infrequently. I send one about once every other year.
@e0c5bcea we used Mailchimp for years but left because of absurd pricing changes. Apparently they are not too keen on small players. Now we’re using Moosend which is fine enough.
@e0c5bcea I use Mailchimp for Formagari, for convenience but also because of transactional email (formerly Mandrill). Besides, I use some Zapier automation which saves a bit of time. All in all it’s not perfect, but Mailchimp being a major player, many integrations are simplified (that’s the trap, I know).
