I don't think it's so easy. A group of ideological fanatics can easily be a lot worse than a dictator. Also, a dictator  may be easier to overthrow than a group of righteous zealots.

I find it rather funny that the only network that has ever censored me was not Twitter/X, but the “open” Mastodon. 

 Mastodon falls into the category of “small group” - each server is run by a small group who decide what is and is not acceptable. Other protocols like Nostr put the control in the hands of the user to decide what content makes it into their feed.
