@48471ca1 it was a lot less stressful/unsafe feeling than I had read it would be. Just our guide advised us not to take pictures of the snake charmers or let anyone put a bracelet on you or they will say you owe them money. That was just in the main square though

So glad you went with a guide! I feel like you were protected from being taken advantage of.
@51fb1883 @48471ca1 I think we were still taken advantage of in the shops because you have to haggle to get what you consider to be a good price but we had no idea what things were worth. The whole group was cheerfully accepting of the fact that we probably got fleeced!

I’m the worst haggler in the world. I’m happy it was all in good spirit. 😁
@48471ca1 @51fb1883 We were just hopeless. I won’t even tell you what we spent on a ceramic bowl, a leather wallet, a metal bracelet and a small metal casket. Thinking about it now - oh god!!! 😹

Just think of the exotic stories you can tell about each item. Tangible memories.
@51fb1883 @48471ca1 True. It didn’t help that we had to conduct business in French as the man in the main shop didn’t speak English. I don’t remember much French from schooldays. Luckily I did remember, “No, that’s too expensive” 😹

Good for you! From the movies I've seen I think you're supposed to shake your head and walk away and hope the shopkeeper calls you back with a counter offer. 😂

I know I'd be horrible at it. I can't negotiate to save my life. Take solace in the fact that you are helping their economy.

A guide is always a good idea in unfamiliar travels.
Snake charmers, no pics because?
