India reaches out to critical mineral producers for processing technology

India has reached out to key critical mineral producers, including the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, and Argentina, for processing technology. The move comes as India plans to develop its first critical mineral beneficiation and processing plant in the next 3-5 years. The country's advanced chemistry cell manufacturing industry requires 193 thousand tons of cathode active material annually to produce 100 GW hour annum of batteries by 2030. Critical minerals such as cobalt, graphite, lithium, and rare earth elements are essential for manufacturing components of electric vehicles and are used in various sectors. India defined its own list of 30 critical minerals in June 2023.
