We Have to Defend Bitcoin Mining in Norway. Here is why:

1/4 In April 2024, the Norwegian government introduced a legislation to regulate data centers in a way that effectively bans #Bitcoin  mining in the country.

This is setting a huge precedent. So far, all attempts to ban bitcoin mining have been referred to the practices of authoritarian/dictatorial countries such as #China. But in the case of #Norway, this country is considered one were bitcoiners teach human rights defenders about freedom technology routinely.

A country known for defending human rights, the Nobel Peace Prize, will be also known to be against Bitcoin mining, which affects not only miners, but all users, developers and investors. https://image.nostr.build/cdb28c279516878c22718f74ff33a11765bba18f640b3afb2732e83c242739dd.jpg

Actually I didn’t know that it is possible to do a thread. 🧵 i don’t see that option in Damus. How to do it?

I’m not exactly sure, someone else mentioned it but only from your second note so I just copied that and put it on the 1st note to help others find the other notes.

Any country that engages in blanket "regulation" and "legislation" is an enemy of human rights. I'm surprised that conference is allowed to take place.
I would not hurry with such judgment about Norway, but instead propose to do an effort just like #US #bitcoin community to defend your rights and develop your position/policy approach. It works pretty well in the US, why in the #EU bitcoiners don’t even try to work on that?
I'm not saying the entirety of the Government and population are evil in the EU and Norway... I'm saying that like most countries, on the most part, the entirety of the Government and population are stupid.
I dont like this statement to be honest, it makes you easier to put your responsibility to make an effort and defend bitcoin on so-called stupidity of others.

We have in democracies instruments to defend our rights and #freedomtech, so we should exercise it.

If you don’t use it, you lose it.
Also, as an irony, you have virtually unlimited, almost free electricity.

In a purely selfish way, you have oil wealth and now cobalt wealth, making you pretty much the richest country on the planet.

If you as a country started seriously mining Bitcoin, you'd be the ultimate triple threat and the rest of us would all be doomed to a life of poverty and servitude.

But, despite this, you are correct, Norway leads the world on almost every moral and sovereign front. If Norway bans mining, either directly or by stealth that would send incredibly bad signals to the rest of the world.

I wish you freedom and self sovereignty, from the UK.

Also, I want to move to Norway, seriously......
Perhaps our electricity is unlimited and almost free in theory, but in practice households pay a lot more than we used to since we started exporting a lot more of it. Without much more investment into energy production, we are poised to run into shortages as we dedicate a larger portion of our electricity to our "green transition". Most of our new energy production has been on-shore wind farms, which is very unpopular due to its devastation on our nature. So we have the electricity we have, and it's not enough - for the first time in Norwegian history.

Bitcoin is already very unpopular in Norway. I don't see how this mining ban can be stopped, unfortunately. At this point I just hope they don't accidentally forbid using the SHA-256 algorithm. They're not tech savvy.
Interesting insider insights. Thanks for sharing.
Bitcoin mining was designed to be possible in secret. Let them ban it and the miners will just stop paying taxes. 🤷‍♂️
 Sounds good 🙃
 That’s democracy for you

I love your country but it is a surveillance state. What can I do to help?
I can teach you how to turn your $150 into $5,300 in just 2hours without sending money to anyone

 You should talk to @schjonhaug
Thank you! We are in touch already! 🧡
I think this event could be an interesting opportunity.

Sure, the only thing we need to stop ban of bitcoin mining in the coming weeks, before it is adopted it Norway.
Indeed! But I believe that to bring awareness within the energy industry is paramount! And mining has definitely a role within the future energy mix!
Political attacks on bitcoin outside the US support the US to dominate all aspects of Bitcoin for 100 years. Do Norwegians join the world stage as a participant or give up?

Thank you for bringing the attention to this. It is quite urgent. See my note from a few weeks ago nostr:nevent1qqs2lsm8xrfgs2r89fvw8868kjknw8es5zhcsaj2xzhwgxuyfd38wcqpz3mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wcpzqz3dlyz6e4d4hcepf2zvkt20vxcwldxehuzh8823zy39y5zft95gqvzqqqqqqy2xzf78
