 I used to imagine survival scenarios to go to sleep, too!
Designing shelters is a nesting measure. Makes perfect sense to me! 

 Shelter building is a good skill to practice, but I did one time sleep quite contentedly on a very remote hilltop in central Nebraska with nothing but a blue poly tarp folded taco-style around my sleeping bag.  Got a pretty good rain that night too. Just flipped the tarp corner over my head and went back to sleep. 

 Some people count sheep but this also seems a good idea... whats the ideal design you came up with? 

 I like to think about clearing new areas of my land & how the fruit/nut trees will be laid out 

 Have you put those plans into practice or paper? Would be cool to see 

 Oh yeah that’s all I do on my YT. I have 10 acres, but only about 2 are under intentional management so far.
