@rabble is spot on here. I suffered a lot yesterday when I introduced #Nostr to my undergrad students in the classroom, in a public university in Bangladesh. They were happy to get introduced to it and began using it instantly but they didn't like the browser extension part.

I must confess I was not a very capable teacher on the Nostr topic, and I have to chalk out a more clear-cut and simple onboarding instruction set, but what Rabble is focusing here requires serious attention of our wonderful devs.

Btw, my introducing of @simplex to my students was smooth. They didn't have any trouble at all.

Thanks. 🫂

Why did they need a browser extension to generate keys?
I don't think was about generating keys. Moreso about using a NIP-07 compliant extension.
 Exactly. 🫂
The extension is not essentially required for generating keys actually (though it's possible to do the whole onboarding process with the Alby extension master key lately).

The extension is needed for creating an Alby lightning wallet account if one likes to do it that way. It offers to customize your name in the wallet address for free. But an extension is CRUCIALLY required for the safety of your nsec key.

Thank you. 🫂
To be clear: The extension is not required to create Alby lightning wallet and @getalby.com address.

It (the extension) makes it also much easier to use the Alby wallet, log in with Lightning, using Nostr.

And indeed, it is recommended to use the extension to store your keys locally and sign Nostr events, instead of pasting it on every website/client.

Keep #nostring!
I understand. Thank you very much for clarifying. 🫂
you should show them keet.io too especially when version 2 is realease any day now

teaching on nostr is a little difficult given its new and evolving so fast, but better question why teach at all? i mean there is so many better resources out there that teach for you, so many materials, if you wanted to explain nostr just pull up a youtube or a few episodes from @Thank God For Nostr Podcast , really the days of 'teachers' teaching is over

On keet.io. I've been in touch with it a soon most from it's beginning. Though it's very promising, but still it has a very long way to go.
 #FuckTypo

I REPOST THE CORRECTED COMMENT BELOW.

try delete the note and repost next time
You can't actually delete something o in #Nostr in the true sense.
i think most clients and relays obey delete requests, also silly we dont have edit
Yeah edit is pretty easy to do. We just need an updated delete message where we include the reference to the new replacement version. Edit without delete would also be possible. We’ve got replaceable events already. We just don’t use them for posts and formatted markdown posts.
yes a few ways to do it but i dont agree deleting should be part as there should be a history of edits

i suggested delete just now as that is a work around and appropriate for just posted things with mistakes

i am aware of the irony given my previous post too

deleting older events which form part of conversations is quite problematic

people could destroy their npub by posting their nsec and back filling with ai generated crap

nostr probably needs a logical restructure at some point, a version 2, there is unnecessary duplication of ideas

Many people will like such ability I think. Have you already employed it on nos.social?

Well @rabble, can I use nos.social as a web client or as an android app? I liked it's home page on the web so much.

keet like most p2p message apps biggest problem is offline messages, i think v2 has a solution for it with fren relaying
Looking forward to check it out.
Well, I'll check keet.io again to see how much it has improved.
2 is still not out, it was meant to be out over a week ago but is still being tested
 Waiting...
It's funny, I get the same feedback when I try to teach someone to use a password manager.. they push back and push back, and act like it's the hardest thing in the world. And then they don't do it and get hacked. Something wrong with computer education, it should be taught at an early age.. kids growin' up with an iPad in the crib ffs. 🤔

Browser extension is confusing, easiest is to just download a mobile client

Or go to snort / iris on the web, no need for any extensions. Unless you want to connect lightning
Yes, but lightning is an essential part of Nostr. And the extension is crucial for nsec safety, isn't it?
Extension doesn’t work on mobile and do we want a 3rd party extension to be crucial for everyone coming to nostr?
Yeah, extension doesn't work on mobile phones.

So far I understand, I'm just a curious lay-human in the Nostr-verse, if one considers one's nsec safety, an extension is crucial for us particularly on the web clients. On cell phones, it's very risky to put your nsec in just any Nostr app. You have to know and trust that app almost absolutely.

Thanks Max. 🫂
Yes or don’t use nostr on mobile at all which is very limiting
I'm not actually a mobile-man. I don't feel comfortable using a mobile phone. But many people feels comfortable with it. I don't know if you user Android, Amethyst is a good dependable app. I don't find it's proper comparison for myself on the web. Do you use a web client btw? Which one?
