@EllisDee @Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: yeah which we also used up until we decided to start grounding our stuff. I still don't understand why Japan didn't also adopt it. 

I understand why they don't need it but it certainly wouldn't hurt. 

A lot of newer places in Japan do have grounding and just have outlets like this so you can use an adaptor if you need to. However I'm sure you can see how this is fucking stupid compared to just installing 3 prong outlets instead of doing this:

Sure, microwave clocks likely still use it, but who relies on a microwave clock?

 @Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: some stuff would care. That's enough out of spec to shorten a motor's life. 

Most things these days (except for a few appliances) are designed to work on 100v-240v at 50Hz-60Hz so it's mostly just down to buying the right wall dongle to convert it. 

 @Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: okay that difference comes down to if it's two lives that are 120° or 180° out of phase.
