Privacy settings have been helpful with having a better experience as a woman on the internet. Maybe the possibility of having a personal private invitation only relay and having the ability when posting a note to either publish only to your private relay or broadcast to all relays you use? Spitballing here.
Even if you only publish to a private relay, anyone with access to that relay could broadcast your notes to any other relay
Hmmm you would need a way to communicate which notes are from the private relay and shouldn’t be reposted. Then have to trust those you invite not to re-note. Communicating privately might just continue to be the easier way.
Private chat groups definitely a better solution
Yeah. Private relays, communities, group chats. Already have that, in some clients. Or just encrypt the notes themselves. Then you could mark some notes as private and only your follows can see them, or whatever.
I'm the end it doesn't really work. Information will spread. What's key is not being forced the see the replies of others imo.
Yes, npubs can "leak" information out of that place (as they can with DMs, audio/video chats or IRL meetings), but bots and trolls would have a difficult time coming in and causing havoc. It would make for a calmer, more-productive conversation. It's a whitelist concept, rather than a blacklist concept, and that is very attractive.
