What’s the most broken thing on nostr? #asknostr
Incentives... People don't understand them
What exactly do you have in mind?
I don't know, just reflecting a bit on the value proposition of nostr, and how it is not fully appreciated, just like bitcoin. I mean, conscientious individuals do appreciate it and we are the ones who keep this network alive. VC money doesn't come to nostr at the moment because we don't have the mechanisms or data sources necessary to have KPIs and that sort of thing. For my part this is the best thing about this network, but other people are trying to find a way to bypass this and go towards a conventional and established, we could say legacy, incentive model. Just a rant xD. But what I do think can be improved a lot is how we manage our identities. That's why I wrote https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1032
Kind 3 relay lists. By far. And yes, Amethyst is also one of the hosts of the problem.
How do we fix? https://github.com/nostrability/nostrability/issues/5
NIP-65 works. Our apps just require a lot of work to migrate over.
The pub key isn’t showing up on nostr directory and I can’t find it in searches. Make it make sense?
Which pubkey?
@indeehub
I can find your pubkey on Damus profile search just fine https://image.nostr.build/9205b88a1c4b7dbf4270040f2c99e975c017446823f93f2dc8ce2a970092044d.jpg
“Indeehub” is showing now on (my) search. maybe just took a moment… https://image.nostr.build/2fa9d26e1f3bdda7442aa4f7fbd5dd866d7573a41bcf4a2766c8e99fa4a27a88.jpg
so far discoverability and engagement. getting lots of crickets over here...
@corndalorian solution nostr:note1fpx4lax948hrsfm25pgyxpmqw3v7jwzu6zkssatvezcl08aqglus8rwxzk 😘 Followed. In general folks enjoy video, and visuals. If you are a musician, carpenter, machinist you should have some 🔥 things to share. I encourage you to share, and I am sure ppl will appreciate. Save for a few exceptions, most ppl dont receive an algo boost on nostr. Genuinely interact with others, and you will receive more interaction.
--Threads but that's been talked about enough... --Tagging people in notes & generally finding people in search --Resurfacing notes from follows, other than recent ones
Tell me more about the resurfacing notes. What are you trying to do? Where’s the struggle? Can you describe the perfect outcome?
Personally, I want to see the timeline 3-4 hours back. When I miss looking at Japanese TL, because it's so fast, I would have missed entire discussion topics. So would like to catch up when I feel like it without scrolling down forever. Generally speaking, notes from Top10% of follows, in last 2-3 days may be good. This can be a list, but I want it to be more dynamic. And also, maybe notes zapped by follows can also be included there. Or different choices of TL other than trending and most recent from follows.
- Tagging people / npubs - Sharing outside of nostr (spammy or long URLs, not rendering messages in the UI)
I have trouble zapping consistently. Tried snort/Phoenix, but could only send, not receive. Tried amethyst/Phoenix, same thing. Tried amethyst/alby, could zap when I first set it up, now I can't zap anyone, but I can still receive? I'm not a dev or anything just simple user but everyone likes to talk about how zaps change everything, Valerie for value etc but fuck man, if people have to go through half a dozen combinations of clients and wallets to make it work - no one is going to do it.
Are you US based?
America north
Have you tried Wallet of Satoshi?
Not yet
Not sure if available in America north - if it is, it works very well. Just know it is custodial, and you can get rugged at any point in time
I'll give WOS a go after I compile all my little test stacks back together
Meaning canada
What Nostr client you use doesn’t affect your ability to receive zaps. Also, there’s no way to receive zaps to a Phoenix wallet. When sending zaps doesn’t work, the problem is more likely a temporary problem with the LNURL provider such as Alby. Nostr clients could do a better job at letting you know what went wrong, but it’s difficult cause a lot of things can go wrong and the LNURL provider doesn’t always let the Nostr client know what went wrong.
Thanks for the tips
Onboarding to Nostr : all the different ways to login … wtf - npub: for “read only” mode … is that even used? - nip05: same above, but only with a “valid” address … how do that? - nip05: via bunker … wait… it’s different if you use a bunker to log in. - bunker_url: WTF IS THIS? - nsec: NO never login using nsec… but it’s OK for “native” apps ONLY (what’s the difference?) … but web clients will also need your nsec to make edits … so make sure they have it… somehow? - browser extension: the only universally approved login method (for web apps) but loosing vogue to custodial nsec bunkers (that might NOT be custodial, but you kinda need to know which is which) … and BTW it’s safe to paste nsec here … and in every browser you use… well maybe not ALL of them cause that’s a security risk.
