@Layerjack (Onion Knight) Affinity is good but has less third party support, I mostly use GIMP without trouble but then I'm not a professional so I'd download the trial for Affinity if I were you and see how well it works for your use case. 

 I can't stand GIMP UI layout and flow. Krita wins among FOSS selection for me
