As I consider the apologetics of the Orthodox and the Roman Catholics regarding the Great Schism, I always come back to one particular point. The focus is often on the Patriarch of Constantinople and the Pope of Rome excommunicating each other, however there were three other Patriarchs that had a choice to side with one or the other. They all unanimously rejected Rome. Honestly, this has been as far as I took that train of thought, and I realized that I'm not being intellectually honest with myself if I reject the entire Roman Catholic apologetic on a single presupposition. I find that I get comfortable in a worldview and don't ask questions I should be asking, or in this case, am wary of digging deeper to discover that the opposing worldview does have some merit (maybe giving you all a bit too much of an insight into my heart on this lol). All that to say, I'm posting this not as a "gotcha" to prove a superior position, but a cry for help to understand, given the history and positional alignment, what the Catholic response would be to the reason for this IF the unanimous understanding was truly Papal supremacy? Resources and direction are appreciated. I know I have several people on here who are Catholics and genuinely love Jesus, thus I thought I'd ask.
