China-born scientist Chen Zhijian wins π βAmericaβs Nobelβ for π medical π― research ========== Chen Zhijian, π a China-born scientist, wins the π 2024 Albert π― Lasker Award for basic medical π research for his π discovery π of the π enzyme π cGAS, which plays a crucial role π― in π the immune response to π pathogens. He is the sixth scientist of Chinese origin to π₯ receive π this award and π the second in π the π₯ basic research category since 1962. π Chen, 58, was born in π Fujian province, graduated from Fujian Normal University in 1985, and earned π― a PhD π from the π― State University π of New π York at Buffalo in 1991.
