 I don't think I have any other nodes around but just wondering. Maps seems to show there are a few within a few miles but haven't been able to see them yet.

 LongFast is the default channel so you have more chances to get contact with people on that channel.

 I think part of my problem is I'm using the web app so hopefully get some clarity when I get a proper phone device.

 Try to use the web UI. Just you have to connect on a wifi and browser mestastastic.local
