Don't get me wrong, they're great to poke at and learn how to use chirp and become familiar with 2m and 70cm, but their greatest achievement is to help push new hams to better products. 
 Something I would like to learn but seems complicated thanks for the links.  
 It will be worth the effort.  And it’s not as hard as it seems.
