And our reliance on digital records makes so much of current history 100% transient--even pulp paper can last a hundred years, while digital media from 25 years ago are completely lost (between natural degradation and upgrades to newer/"better" formats)

 @4b13d910 @2988a057 absolutely. My prediction is that if humankind survives a few more centuries this may be considered a Dark Age, where records are just completely gone because of our reliance on tech which is so very unstable 
 @4b13d910 @25b5e014 Truth. It's funny. I decided to keep a paper diary in 2020, in pencil, because I read somewhere that even if it gets wet, pencil is still legible a hundred years later. It was a very interesting tactile experience.
