Leadership went inexplicably to Moscow a while back. Now we know why.

 @da93f6eb that sounds like a way for Russia to put pressure on Israel. But Putin values Israel as a useful channel. I don't see what an all-out attack on Israel does for him.
 @b870d4c8

It will create a dilemma of intellectual resources for countries aiming to counter Putin's (Russia's actually) aggression.
 @da93f6eb that sounds like a rather vague thing to give up concrete benefits for.
 @b870d4c8 potentially there is also a coordination with the aims of the other main axis party, Iran. But I think it is a good standalone case to add more conflicts to divert the attention and funds of the democracies.
 @da93f6eb maybe, and if Hezbollah start attacking now that would support this theory. In general I think we need evidence before we see any hand of Russia or Iran in this.

How many resources do Western states typically divert to Israel-Hamas conflicts that would otherwise be devoted to Ukraine?
 @6fa57bb1 @da93f6eb if the conflict leads to a general war it will probably see a lessening of Western resources into the region, as EU reconstruction projects in Palestine will be halted.
