I'm curious how many family members asked about bitcoin since it's up 150+% since last Christmas. Anyone have any new interest?
No. Family still doesnt give a flying fuck-a-roony
Sames for me for the most part. I have two cousins that I orange pilled. I'll see them tomorrow. 🥹
My sister tried to shill me Solana. I orange pilled her and her hubby about two years ago. They have been drawn into the shitcoins. I still have work to do.
Oh wow... That's not the response I was expecting. Work hard.
Solana is the new hotness. Thry are basically subsidizing their inherent inefficiency costs of operation through dillution and inflation. SOL howlers are getting poorer, but they just don't know it.
How is something that goes down and has to be rebooted become hot? And it was even pumped but a dude that's in jail at the moment. Crazy.
Twitter has already declared ETH dead and SOL the new king of Turd Mountain. The algorithm has created an alternate reality. CTV is apparently getting a UASF, also, which is equally as dumb and filable under "also not going to happen".
That's not th flippening that Ethereum fans wanted 😂😂 I don't think a lot of people we want CTV. I can't see that happening either.
None. We hosted 10 today. Retail comes back after ATH.
I guess that's possible. I assumed that ETF news in the media would bring them back earlier.
Literally nobody has asked me. My brother in law asked me about ETH a couple years ago, and I tried to explain the perverse incentives of MEV and the literal lack of a problem that ETH is attempting to solve, evidenced by the constantly shifting narratives. I have a suspicion he didn't listen. It is weird to be potentially at the "gradually" phase (yes %150 profit in clown world is apparently perfectly normal to sleep on). When we hit "suddenly", it will be a different story.
I'm assuming in a year or so and more will start asking us.
Yes! The main thing I wanted for Christmas was for family to ask me about bitcoin. One family member delivered, which led to the question “will you cash out when it goes up?” That led to “wait how do we know there will only be 21M” which led to “I want to buy some!”
A few, and it was all about how surprised they were that #Bitcoin is at 40k
Oh wow! Nice! Did you send them any sats?
Seems like everyone is still DUMB AF when it comes to bitcoin gave a few Satscards away as presents so long precious sats should have used that lightning sat app so if they didn’t clam those sats would come back to me
Hmm. Which app is that? I think I remember seeing someone else mention that recently but I cannot remember what.
Amazing site once you get the hang of it https://lightsats.com/
None. I mentioned it to a family member once last month in the context of not wanting to sell BTC since it was doing so well, but even then they didn't ask. Even with inflation as it is in the US, no interest. A few years ago the main question I got was "what can you do with it?" Since virtually nobody accepts it for goods and services, they quickly lost interest. That has gotten worse since #overstock dot com stopped accepting it. Since the bitcoin culture is still all about buying and holding, not spending and using, I don't expect a huge #retail #adoption anytime soon. All the ingredients are there: #inflation, ease of use (e.g. mobile, on chain, self custodied wallets), on-ramps like #PayPal, #Strike, and #CashApp... but I haven't seen the interest. Now with transaction fees being up 10x and the lightning network being difficult to use for mere mortals, it's going to be an uphill battle in #2024. 🫤 I'm doing my part. I accept #BTC for the signets that I sell. If I did security consulting again, I'd demand to be paid in #bitcoin and pass on the job if they said no.
Compelling points! I still think that the use case is difficult to understand if you haven't thought about scarcity vs abundance, money policies, and the difficulty of preserving value over a long time...
That can certainly help, but even just being able to send money to people over the internet, easily, and with low fees is pretty enticing. Less so at $5-10/transaction though. For example, a #signet is about $50 after shipping, so that'd be 10-20% in fees. Not an attractive option. As long as people are willing to have someone else custody their money, lightning solves this. Another thing that'd do it is if we hit critical mass where people frequently hear things like "can you just send me some bitcoin [over lightning], I don't have PayPal [anymore]?" I guess that's just it. I want it to be easier to get into bitcoin than to sign up for PayPal!
If they knew about it, many wouldn’t say anything anyway. Ego pride thing..
I have been busy lately mining fiat, but I still do not notice any difference in the normies yet about asking about Bitcoin.
Your post is getting a lot of positive feedback. Added to the https://nostraco.in/hot feed
Interesting thread nostr:nevent1qqsttxztps3t72m55qsw7qc43snjx5ckkkzwckj9mtzfqtlhlsz9u9gprdmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68yurvv438xtnrdakj7q3q8ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqxpqqqqqqzppzvqm
Everyone chilled about high fiat prices, buying solar panels etc. But my boomer dad owns bitcoin already and mum started finally to be curious 👀 about it.
crickets!
Nope, tried talking to my old man about it but he's pretty set on gold backed fiat and thinks BTC can be controlled 🤦🏻♂️ Can't save em all
Not what you asked, but FWIW I find the best strategy is to not say much - just have them download Muun (or whatever easy iOS wallet) and send them sats on the spot. It's amazing how owning some bitcoin makes them interested in what it is and how it works, plus they immediately get the p2p aspect without me even mentioning it.
