It gets the media off your back during the home stretch since they already reported the story two years ago - why would they want to repeat old news?

It means they can focus their actual campaign on buying people, with their base already reassured about who they are.

The electorate usually can’t even remember last week so won’t remember this period where the media is fawning about an off-season cross-country election campaign in the summer…when Canadians are grumpy because of grocery and petro price gouging, no more bags at grocery stores, no more plastic straws…
