PHP really sucks. PHP is dead. It's what I often hear or read. I started to use PHP around 2002 and I'm still it using today. I'm not the only one using it. - PHP is used by 75% of all websites - Many, many FOSS projects are built with PHP - With the age of 28 years, PHP probably exist the next 28 years (the Lindy effect) - Most used CMSs are built with PHP and used by many organizations and individuals More stats on PHP: https://w3techs.com/technologies/details/pl-php I really enjoy using it and with @nostrphp I'm challenging myself again to push the boundaries what's possible combined with Nostr. nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzqrwzmjc5mz0efw9pty8p0r5lhjew789shct452pcgtuac4rc0qq6qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qg3waehxw309ahx7um5wgh8w6twv5hsqgxadq8e34z5k0tnlgwsjzja5434fyzza8hzyuzggt70vegxuy8mqupsppev
Old PHP code is pretty gnarly. New PHP code can still be written like it was 2002, but ot doesn't have to be. Nextcloud, for example, is pretty nice looking PHP code. Ot's not perfect, but if you're a long time PHP dev, you might be surprised to see things like... classes! 🤣
Oh Nextcloud, I use it, is the most buggy and bloated php app ever written I bet
Do you use it?
Yup. Buggy mess. Contacts and Tasks won't even display
Contacts works for me. I don’t use tasks.
The people have spoken. #nostr don’t have a choice here being on the nuclear economies side of life having been a problem for people mothering wars and tyranny. 💌 #KILLEMALL
#nostr can only stand up for the people by servitude and integrity, as anything else Metallicas. The only out! #KILLEMALL
What version are you on? It worked om 29 but nothing on 30
Im still on 28 😅
Oh smart man! 29 is safe. 30 is shit
Well I did a restore a couple of weeks back when an update broke my instance (to version 30 I think and I was still on 28 while I had to update to 29 first). My Nextcloud is fully dockerized with docker compose, but my knowledge with PHP did helped me a lot to restore the instance. But in general to me it’s pretty impressive what Nextcloud is doing with that PHP codebase. But if you would build the today from scratch, I can imagine there are better languages which will do the job.
Do you use memories? You can make photos just like icloud andbuse your gpu to transcode videos to save bandwidth
PHP fits the ‘worse is better’ category pretty well https://www.dreamsongs.com/RiseOfWorseIsBetter.html I’m running a Nextcloud instance too, the codebase is pretty massive

Someone I used to share a co-working space with told me that PHP is having a revivial. I liked PHP development in some ways but after exposing myself properly to other languages I recognise a lot of the issues that people have with it. There's some great PHP frameworks, namely Laravel, that make working with PHP nicer but I wouldn't choose it as a primary language any more.
