 In the end, it was pretty anti-climactic. At the time of the test I was back in an individual waiting room and so I just heard it on my phone and faintly from a nearby room. Would have been more interesting had I still been in the waiting room with all the people.

 @9b033548 I am at PGConf NYC and it was pretty invasive. What was interesting is that most phones went off at the same time - but one person's phone went off about 30 seconds later. Whatever network it was on must have had some delay...

 @9b033548 It was pretty loud for me, much louder than the ones I've historically gotten for floods and hurricanes.

 @9b033548 none of the switches to disable alerts on iOS were effective. A bunch of buddies of mine tried various settings on our phones but all received the alert.  So the toggles are pretend.

I'm sure the government will never abuse this capability (*).

 @37a0011c Yes, I saw warnings over the last few days targeted at people wanting to keep a phone hidden - for instance an abused spouse/partner keeping a phone hidden from the abuser - suggesting they should power off their device for today.
