A Saturday morning confession. I am not in sales. I actually really despise the traditional salesman techniques. I don’t like to ‘shill’ products, I’ve always believed if the product is awesome, people will hear about it and it will sell itself. I’ve been feeling like a shiller of nostr.build accounts for a while now, and this was never my intention on nostr. I always just wanted to shitpost and help grow the nostr community. With that said, media is very expensive to host and manage, and nostr.build now hosts ~80%+ of nostr medi (1.5mil files /1.1TB and growing). The best way I can continue to help support nostr is to keep nostr.build strong. To do this I have to shill accounts since it is our only income.. We do have some killer features that I’m really excited about, so that makes it easier. Please know, I just want to be a normal nostr and Bitcoin psychopath 💜
Never apologize for hustling to grow your business. Products don’t sell themselves. That’s a myth, and a harmful one, at that. Sure, there are right ways and wrong ways to market and sell, but market and sell, we must.
🙏🫂
Shill
I'm one of the boring old salesman with unique techniques 😁 first i need to start paying you, second if you need help I'm available to shill your essential stuff 🫂
I like unique sales techniques and now totally see the importance of sales, thank you.
We all hate shilling our wares. You’re normal.
I am a strong believer of value-for-value and growing nostr/bitcoin businesses!
I concur!
I'll send anyone who zaps his note (not mine) a free digital download of my latest creation which is a map of locations which accept #bitcoin in Lugano Switzerland. As a way to try and drum up support for nostr.build in my own small way and also by shilling my maps. The irony is not lost on me 😬😜
Oh it looks like this also https://image.nostr.build/ecc600382eb60aa94e9b31a0f9447c6bd34b292e81f9b22dff4cb1c3d67dbb55.png
That’s beautiful 💜
You have a lot of art to send 🤣🤣 Was not expecting this to be a zap fest. Thank you!!
Never had that feeling about your work. As we speak I plan on getting the Creator account today. You do great job. Are there plans on expanding features that would help organize art collections? Broadly speaking here..general question :)
Funny that you mention that, step right up and let me show you our latest innovative features 🤣🤣🤣 Truth is Fishcake just completely rebuilt the Account section making it way easier to organize and manage your media. And yes, we plan to make it even easier by adding labels and AI descriptions to your media allowing you to search your own stuff. Did I mention the new AI image generator 😂😂 https://v.nostr.build/YgPOG.m4v
You do what you have to. Al good.
🫂
You also have a bunch of us shilling it for you 🫡
I noticed that, so very much appreciated🙏
I think paid accounts would increase if the Nostr clients displayed a link to premium account signup when file uploads fail because of free account limitations
We have that on the website, but not the clients.. Great idea, let me see how to implement this!
My uploads still fail within clients, despite being a premium user.
Regularly? Displaying error messages in clients would help troubleshoot what the problem is. I think sometimes the issue is on the Nostr client side. Try uploading straight to nostr.build when that happens. I often just upload straight to nostr.build and copy the link when composing a note.
Regularly the last several months. It’s actually what led to me becoming a premium user. It just sucks to have to go to a website and copy the link. I’m lazy. Assuming it’s a client thing.
Ping @The Fishcake🐶🐾 when it happens. Sometimes there’s bad deploys. Doesn’t happen often though. Downside of not having a full time team working on the product.
This should not be happening for free or paid accts, and we have not seen this as a regular issue. We’ll investigate and see what’s up. Please let @The Fishcake🐶🐾 and me know next time it happens and we’ll troubleshoot further. Curious if it happens on certain clients? Certain file types? When it happened last? Error messages? Very recently Fishcake fixed a ‘large file upload bug’ that may have been related.
It’s on Damus. Generally happens when I’m uploading short mp4 or mov video files for @WASTOIDS. Works perfectly every time on the site. Will screenshot next time.
I quickly checked the logs but I have not seen any uploads from your npub in the past day or so. Please screenshot when you get failure next time so I can investigate thoroughly 🐶🐾🫂🙏🏻
Yeah that’s my fault and I’m sure other clients as well. Started documenting work to be done here: https://github.com/damus-io/damus/issues/2216
I have an account and support your work. However, I will not be renewing my account without a custom domain option.
I know Fishcake is working on this feature, and a few others have requested it.
Cool. And don't feel any kind of way for selling goods and services. My grandma told me "nothing happens until it gets sold"
It's amazing to me how far 1.1 TB can take us. I have a 10TB NAS at home and never in my wildest dreams did I imagine something as useful as nostr.build could be on it for this many people. You're doing gods work.
Can you offer more variety of options to use your services? I wouldn’t mind paying for a one time upload instead of committing to a year.
We are thinking about that, but it is a little further out.. In the meantime you have a couple options! Our free service supports up to 10MB videos, and we recommend Handbrake to compress if necessary. Also, satellite.earth/cdn does offer ‘per video uploads’.
I don’t have an intuitive feeling for bandwidth and storage requirements. I suppose storage depends on archive policies, but can this system scale?
We are compressing older media, so far not a problem. If we do a 10-20x growth we might need to revisit some architecture, fortunately Fishcake has experience scaling enterprise and service provider systems, so sure we can handle it 🤙
First of all, thank you for building Nostr.build 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 There is no shame in promoting your product. People have the choice to buy or not buy. This is a very long note. DM me if you want to talk more. I’m happy to help. I have no experience in B2C sales but I do have 15 years of experience in B2B sales on large accounts. Here are some suggestions for your consideration. You can take any, all or none of them: - Never sell yourself short. You are offering a fantastic service and giving it away for free. Put a limit on it. Delete media from unpaid accounts after 6 months. - Paid accounts get their media stored for as long as they remain subscribed, plus 6 months. - Every time an unpaid account reaches a storage threshold (e.g., every 1 GB) or uploads a given set of files (e.g., every 100 files) send them a DM letting them know about it, and the benefits of the paid accounts. - Use free accounts as your marketing . Put a small watermark or banner under each uploaded picture with a message like “Stored for free at nostr.build”. - You’re probably doing this already, track the conversion rate from free to paid. You have 2 growth metrics: new free signups and free to paid conversion rate. Whatever actions you take, need to be designed to improve those metrics.
Awesome feedback, thank you. We will work on those!
Dude, I’ve never once felt you’ve shilled. You provide a great service, and you should be proud of that. Appreciate all you do.
🤙🫂
I zapped this post!
No need to apologize. You’re providing a valuable service and should get paid.
We are not getting paid yet (spending anything for personal), but we are able to cover core costs, including CDN, hosting, AI image generator, etc. We also need a little backup for bandwidth spikes, new features (currently working on an AI tagging and search), and emergency..
Would be nice if clients had an option to set a percent to donate from incoming zaps of media hosted on nb. Even like 5-10% auto split to nb seems fair. You'd get a fair amount from memes, probably ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(not my memes lol)
Snort has this, we get some chunks from them.
Glad I bought 3 years worth of Nostr build. You guys make Nostr very easy to use and I appreciate the solid product you have built, keep at it
Very appreciative. We will only be adding more features and functionality over time.
Thank you all for the generous zaps 💜💜💜
You have never oversold anything. You are kind, and you both deserve to be paid. Keep shilling. It's what people want.
never apologise for helping. if folks don't understand, its becausre they haven't been educated enough. keep sharing the great things you do. be a proud "nostropath" 🙃
Never be ashamed of sharing the benefits of products and services you have used and support and believe in 🤝
I've created new account @Hikari Harmony To publish my AI generated female anime characters... Soon I'll need to use full scale of nostrbuild and surely to support your great work
How much of that storage could be dedicated to duplicated memes and gifs, though? Couldn't clients to make calls to a nostrbuild's gif server from where to pull the available ones, instead of users uploading each time they'd like to `react funny' on a note? Otherwise, there's not so much to get turned down about what you're doing around nostr, it seems to me... if something nostrbuild it's been there keeping up the pace just tightly alongside development and usage experience. Also otherwise, to the shills what it has to be shilled.
We hash the files first and compare to all existing, if the same file, it doesn’t get uploaded, just sent the existing hash/ file link.
Way too generous.. I’m buying a drink tonight with this 🙏
Bought and drank this morning, thank you 💜 https://i.nostr.build/kZqPj.jpg
