@003ec114 Just trust the process Bev, & don't fall for the left's narrative that the only way to get things done is through fire, fight, protest, civil disobedience & taxing the crap out of the rich There's another way, which doesn't terrify moderates, swing voters, business & our workforce. #Starmer's playing an obvious game of not giving the #Tories a sniff The #CONservatives want to revive the ghosts of #Brexit & #Taxation & fight #GE2024 on those battlegrounds. #Labour's wisened up
@0f342e77 It requires taking a lot on trust Anthony, and I'm not sure I can in light of some of the things he's done. I agree they're engaged in a fine balancing act when the media is so blatantly against #Labour. I find Reeves and Streeting terrifying. I'm so sorry for the generations that haven't lived through better times. I'm aware of how lucky I am. I've had a mortgage since I was 18 - no parental help. Imagine that nowadays. Sad, sad times...
@003ec114 1/ What you must do Bev is look at the world we're in today, not the one where you were 18. There's little comparison. Everyone is terrified of what the future holds, but any incoming party MUST govern for all, & not just their support base as the #Tories have mostly done. Talking to a few far left loon recently, you know their No 1 strategy? A HUGE wealth tax on the rich!
@003ec114 2/ Then there's Hunt's pre-election strategy. Fund triple lock pensions by cutting benefits, as it's the wealthy elderly who mostly vote Tory This brutal partisan politics has to stop! We need to govern for all. I've no interest in seeing the wealthy stripped of their riches, so I can benefit. That's just the politics of envy I merely want fairness, a good job & a chance for my kids to afford a decent house in a good area that doesn't amount to more than 3 times their salary
@0f342e77 I don't see how what I said means that I'm looking backwards. I merely explained why I feel fortunate and so sorry for young people today. Completely agree that the 'Tories govern to enrich their cabal rather than for the good of the country as a whole. I wish there was a party which followed the Nordic economic model. Have you looked at @b6548392's recent suggestions? https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2023/09/11/the-taxing-wealth-report-2024-and-the-reform-of-tax-administration/
@003ec114 @b6548392 Richard Murphy advised #Corbyn & advocated #MMT, the Modern Monetary Theory. All credibility he had to comment on realistic high level fiscal/economic policy fizzled away with #Labour's #GE2024 fortunes I followed him on #Xitter & I remember his advocacy of MMT. HOWEVER, 3 preeminent economists joined the discussion & pointed out the failings & pitfalls of MMT What did Richard do? He scarpered! 😳 No defence of his doctrine, he just legged it without response 🏃
