Yes, custom arm arch. They’re the M series chips. Much, much better perf and battery life. 

2020 was the last Intel model.

 If given the choice, I'd stear clear of Mac and phones tbh. I'm a die hard Android user now. I used to have an iPhone 4 back in the way back days. Lost it and never looked back.

 i quit using windows around 2013 and never had the budget for mac in the first place, or iphone... on top of my perception of the abusive manipulation that the apple marketing machine engages in
