 I had no idea a new president has to wait so long before taking power. Seems completely outrageous that the outgoing presidency can make huge decisions in this handing over period.

America is humungous, so it used to take a long time to get to Washington D.C., particularly in the winter. And it usually takes a long time to finish voting and settle lawsuits, and etc.

 Of course it's fair. We're an upstart, brash, bragadocious bunch of weirdos and idiots that love to fight but also  come up with really brilliant stuff on occasion.
