If you are only willing to speak the truth when it doesn’t cost you anything, that makes you a coward. nostr:note1dz05qa46w6eu0d8c5ayqszhrylxytqha6hv9zr47vqx6wjzdcg9qyvk9wp
This is what a lot of good men suffer from. Myself included. I just can’t not call out bullshit and it alienates me from many people. But idgaf because in my core I know that if I don’t speak up, I become part of the problem.
Yeah there’s a very difficult balancing act of saying the truth and not losing everyone around you who is (rightfully) afraid.
JA always described himself as a lightning rod for wikileaks. He spoke the truth but paid the price for the whole wikileaks org being journalists, and protecting their sources. It was a strange thing that many people who focussed on JA forgot completely about the journalism of wikileaks, which is more relevant today than ever. I have even heard nostr celebs who like assange disparaging wikileaks. More than the person is what he stood for, which is honest journalism : who, what, why, where, when.
