Fake doctor menace: HC irked over govt response

The Orissa High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the state government's affidavit in response to a PIL on the menace of fake doctors. The court had previously directed the government to file an affidavit indicating whether any surveillance mechanism to identify fake doctors is operational in the state. The court has now directed the commissioner-cum-secretary of Health & Family Welfare department to file an affidavit on the surveillance mechanism within two weeks. The court expects the president of Odisha Council for Medical Registration (OCMR) to consider suggestions for identifying genuine doctors in a way that even an illiterate person can distinguish between a genuine doctor and a fake doctor.
