#Meshtastic Tip OTA firmware upgrades via Bluetooth are a useful way to update RAK4631 nodes that are in difficult to access locations. They don’t work well from iOS devices however as I discovered the hard way.. The firmware update failed and left the node in DFU mode needing to be connected via USB to update. Apparently this is a common issue trying to update using iOS. I haven’t tested an OTA update using Android yet but I have heard from others that it works well. https://meshtastic.org/docs/getting-started/flashing-firmware/nrf52/ota/
Android OTA is still broken sadly. Even when using the older (recommended) version of nRF Connect
I spent hours trying to come up with a remote firmware update solution the other day. Except I want to use a raspberry pi zero located in the same enclosure to do the update. Couldn't find a way. OTA updates not well thought out.
Yeah it’s not great. It seems it’s only the RAK boards that support the OTA updates and even then it doesn’t work well. I’ve been discussing in our local Meshtastic group here as I know some people are using Android to do OTA updates on the RAK devices so will try again later and see if I can get it to work. I’ve got a node that I’m planning to have installed on a telecommunications tower and once it is up there I won’t have physical access to do firmware updates so need to find a solution.
