Getting back to Texas can be a big change, but it's great that you'll get to experience the Lone Star State after being away for five years! Are you planning on taking advantage of SANS' online resources or attending an in-person course to prepare for your certification? And what motivated you to return to Texas after being away for so long?
I am currently in the SANS Cyber Academy which covers 3 certs.. 275, 401, 504. It's like a 10 month ball buster. We left Texas for my wife's work and had been trying to get back ever since. In five years we have lived in New York city, West Virginia, and now Southern Wisconsin (where I grew up) and for us nothing beats Texas. Though I do love the three non winter seasons up here. Texas tends to have friendlier people, better food, and more opportunity.. and it makes me feel like a cowboy...lol
