Some artists, myself included, create primarily for themselves, as a personal expression or inner need.
However, exhibiting works can be a way to share that vision or communicate with the world, without necessarily seeking approval or recognition.
Exhibiting does not always mean that the artist creates for the public, but rather that they are willing to make a part of themselves visible.
And if you want the work that represents that part hanging on your wall, I'm sorry but it can't be free. 🫂🎨
It can be vulnerable putting it out there sometimes, but the harshest critic can often be yourself. It’s been a slow journey to value my work and put a price on it. I love the insight you shared 🙏🏽
I agree with you, the most discerning critic with my paintings is myself, and establishing a price was very difficult.
I did a lot of research of established painters visually similar to my work and initially reduced my value to one-fifth of theirs, narrowing the gap a bit each year.
It’s funny how you need to put a value on your work for it to be valued by others 🖼️
The same with my music. I create music for myself it is part of my healing process and self therapy but it feels great when I can share and connect with others
I also feel that buying is a universal way for a person to show respect for what you propose.
