Apple rejected the Culture Shock 2024 App Store submission because it thinks it facilitates tipping for digital content (which requires using their in-app purchase system) and also thinks it’s a Lightning wallet app (which can be submitted only by an organization developer account rather than my personal developer account). Yes, but in this case, it’s more so an inconsistent interpretation of their own policies on their part. It’s a dice roll of which reviewer you get to review your submission, and how well trained they are on their own policies. For example, an identical app that I submitted a few days ago “Nostrville 2023” was accepted into the App Store. There’s no difference in functionality.

maybe we should put together all the efforts needed to publish Damus and counter the App Store by some nostr: best practices for publishing to App store, with links and arguments we can send along our appstore submissions. I know Damus had troubles, but its also a proof of concept that it's possible.

I’d argue it’s part incompetence, part a resource issue. The team reviewing new applications are probably nowhere near resourced enough to properly vet all applicants. We’ve seen it before where security researchers have gotten pretty blatant malicious applications approved. AFAIK, the review process is now highly automated and that’s why you quickly fall into issues when your application can be associated with things that break the rules and terms of the App Store. Hopefully you’ll be able to escalate the issue and get it approved once senior reviewers look at the case.
