@Christi Junior Why the fuck do people jerk off Touhou girls so much? It's a shmup series where the characters don't even get developed in the way they would in a story-based franchise.
@Ardainian Right I think the Japs just went nuts making fanart and hentai of them, also, some of the songs are legitimate bangers.
@Christi Junior So their popularity is entirely driven by fanart/hentai? I get that that helps characters like Pyra and 2B a lot too, but they at least have actual well-regarded games to go with them.
@Ardainian Right @Christi Junior God I hate ignorant ass zoomers. Almost everything you know and love about modern japslop culture is a direct result of the mass popularity of 2hu
@merchantHelios @Ardainian Right I was quite surprised to learn that Remilia Scarlet was actually the original Vampire Loli, or at least the one that inspired all the most popular current ones.
@Christi Junior @Ardainian Right @merchantHelios There's some older vampire loli characters, such as Miyu from Vampire Princess Miyu. As for 2hu, it mainly took lots and lots of inspiration from JP myth and folklore, though it did contribute a lot to popularizing various character archetypes in anime and video games.
@merchantHelios @Christi Junior I'm not a zoomer, but nobody in the West actually plays that shit.
@Ardainian Right I mean, there ARE a lot of Touhou games as well, hell, the Switch has a bunch of them now, but I'd assume that the bulk of their "mainstream" Western popularity is driven by art, music and memes.
@Christi Junior @Ardainian Right And, especially, hentai
@b8ed4588 @Ardainian Right Already covered that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_6lFkOg7ko
Correct answer, the tracks are fucking fire in those games. Scarlet Weather Rhapsody is a top 5 game OST
>He doesn't know about the anime ngmi.
@_Blank_ @Christi Junior This is a video game waifu tourney. If the characters are primarily developed through other forms of media I don't think they should count.
The anime is just a retelling of the games. The character development is about the same as the games.
@_Blank_ @Christi Junior What even happens in the games in terms of story and characters?
It depends on the game and character. If it's mainline the character development is decently sparse as there's only a hand full of lines between stages or at bosses. There's also a limited amount of appearances for characters outside of the game they were introduced in so I would say overall there's not much characterization for any of the characters that only appear in one game. So Patchouli who has appeared in 6 mainline games and 5 spinoffs probably has a decent amount of character. I've not played them all so I can't really say much more then that.
