Contempt case filed by M S Dhoni against Ex IPS officer: SC extends stay of Madras HC's sentencing order ========== The Supreme Court has extended the interim stay of the Madras High Court's decision to sentence former IPS officer G Sampath Kumar to 15 days of simple imprisonment in a contempt petition filed by former Indian cricketer Mahinder Singh Dhoni. Dhoni had filed the contempt petition in 2022, alleging that Kumar made derogatory remarks against the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court's two-judge bench, led by Justice A S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, stated that the interim order will continue until further orders and scheduled the next hearing for May 3. The Madras High Court had previously suspended the sentence for 30 days to allow Kumar to appeal before a higher court. Dhoni's contempt petition claimed that Kumar stated that the Supreme Court deviated from the rule of law and kept the deposition of the Justice Mudgal Committee in a sealed cover. #ContemptCase #MSDhoni #ExIpsOfficer #SupremeCourt #MadrasHighCourt https://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2024/Apr/12/contempt-case-filed-by-m-s-dhoni-against-ex-ips-officer-sc-extends-stay-of-madras-hcs-sentencing-order
