Dumb people, when they don't have all the facts, they make shit up to fill in the gaps. And then they forget that they made it up, they believe it as if it was true, never re-evaluating why they believe what they beileve, never checking to see if that actually is the correct explanation, never reevaluating the parsimony of it all.
Piers Morgan is a good example.
I guess but do we ever have all the facts? Maybe we think we have all the relevant facts. So maybe more not willinng to defend your claim to know all the facts with more facts is the issue
as the saying goes the trouble with the world is that the fools are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt ...
my philosophical position ( which i later learned i share with Elon Musk ) is that i am always wrong, but i can strive to be less wrong ...
my strategy is to always learn as much as possible and not make any judgements unless absolutely necessary ...
but at some point you do have to act / make a judgement ... otherwise your wisdom is just cowardice ...
Unfortunately, I have had to deal with malicious intent. You are not "accidentally mistaken about 99%, if not 100%, of over 100 lies and false accusations".
it's how our brains evolved to work - but we now have access to more information than ever and the optimum strategy is to go against our biological programming and actively seek out missing information instead of allowing the brain to fill it with assumptions.
i tried to explain this to a moron ( a mechanic ) and he just made up some BS excuse like " but what if you don't have access to information, and you have lost the skill of making BS assumptions ? "
clearly some people enjoy being dumb and can't be helped.
it takes effort to stop your brain when it starts assuming things and go to actively research. it's the same kind of effort as is required to stop eating when you know you had enough even though you are still enjoying it. this is why stupid, poor and fat people are usually the same demographic.
I think you are right, we have to actively fight our biological programming because we are in a novel information-heavy environment where better success can be had that way.
the specific example that made me realize this is whenever i would see a word i didn't know pronunciation of my brain would immediately start making assumptions about how it is pronounced and then eventually remember the pronunciation i made up as if i heard it somewhere ...
instead now when i detect my brain is doing this i stop it and go to google or youtube to find the real pronunciation and try to remember that instead ...
i told a guy in the gym that i used to bench press 400 lbs but that i am no longer sure if it was real or my imagination ... he stopped talking to me.
he doesn't understand that i question everything including my own memory.
i essentially have to baby talk to people or they think i'm insane.
This happens when you start dating someone. You tend to fill in the gaps with the things you want that person to be.
Surely nobody would be so dumb that they made up someone like Piers Morgan?
