I like a dark room for chill factor. I think a light would bother me. Might try it though.

If you ever decide to try out a webcam light, there are some that have adjustable brightness and color temperature. That way, you can still keep the room cozy while improving video quality...

... and viewing someone clearly through a webcam is also less straining. Some of my work colleagues don't use proper lighting, which makes them appear dark and difficult to see. In contrast, I use a 4K AI webcam and two lights, ensuring I'm perfectly illuminated

 @2b3df152 @fce803cc on the flip side, I have a 9 year old laptop, with a smashed screen and a bit of a dodgy hinge with not much chance to upgrade in the short term at all.
