With politics, I always want to talk to people with different opinions to help me understand their perspective—and maybe my own. With the election coming up and being in LA, I asked my friend Mike Brock to discuss the issues at hand with me. "why Mike sees the centre-left as perhaps the last hope for sustaining capitalism." IDK we must have vastly different definitions of what the word capitalism means. From what I understand left ideology is fundamentally opposed to capitalism.
This was very frustrating to listen to. On one hand, I agree that Trump deserves blame for not cutting spending (though, one of the main reasons I didn't and still won't vote for him is that he has never given any credible indication that he intended to cut spending anyway). On the other hand, Mike Brock was very insistent that the Trump tax cuts (signed into law in 2018) "collapsed" tax revenues. Huh?: https://image.nostr.build/e1c73b2ddac3082c0b1e6b0528a3c78d8f86732a66d79b8c73e11d0bc1ebefa6.png ...and there were many other very dubious assertions.
He was wrong quite a few times. Even when he got fact checked just repeated the same thing. It's like he just doesn't understand or he doesn't believe anything other than the media narrative. Was very hard to get through. Love a good alternative perspective, but I'll be avoiding Brock in future.
It's hard to take someone seriously on the economy when they're citing something called "vibecession". LOL
I am generally a fan of Peter's, but when he's got another lefty on its hard to listen. Usually I just skip those episodes.
I appreciate Peter trying to bring in different perspectives, but this was the wrong guy. I'm happy to listen to someone with intelligent arguments, but this guy was so delusional and one sided.
There are so many critical things one could say about Trump (paging @Whitney Webb), but Brock just seems uninformed and deeply partisan. I was yelling at my phone today as I listened 😬. Not sure I can make it to the end. Appreciate you pushing back on some of his claims.
Great episode. I disagreed a lot with what Mike said, but enjoyed hearing his poorly articulated points and interrupting you. Gave me perspective on how some people view the world and how to have conversation about politics. Keep up the great work.
Re: Hunter's Laptop Story: "The journalistic and editorial mistake that Twitter made in suppressing that story... was why the Russian propaganda was so effective in our country." I would not expect such a bad take from any Bitcoiner. Disappointing. Good for Peter for pushing back. But still, it was a waste of time, and I didn't finish listening to it. You either need to find better leftie advocates or admit that they are none...
Is he even a bitcoiner?
Idk if exclusively, but he is for sure. I guess it's naive to assume that it's a sufficient condition granting you some level of objectivity/empathy. I never really did, but I did assume that he's one able to have a conversation...
Yeah, I just saw he had a few WBD episodes, and I may have even listened to them. He needs to learn how to be honest with himself.
I could only listen to about 15 minutes tbh. He seemed a bit disengenious and closed minded to be honest.
