 I think about this often. We don't have a clothes dryer or AC in our house. We get along just fine. 

So many of our "needs" are manufactured for the benefit of the fiat growth-forever machine.

 No... It's going to be highly dependent on the climate you're in and how many clothes you have. AC and a clothes dryer are low time preference purchases when you have 2 kids and live in GA.

That said, it hits 100º here in the summer too.

 Well... The clothes dryer is low time preference. Especially with a full house. I admire the appreciation of moving slower and enjoying outdoors too though. That's harder to do with kids of course. AC might be high time preference...

 In Japan it’s very common to dry clothes outside or in sun rooms. But when I live AC is a must. You probably could get by without, but it would be very uncomfortable and borderline deadly.

 Climate dependent. Costa Rica is binary. 6 months hanging outside, 6 months of dryer use. Next house should have solar and the heat from miner will vent to an airing room to dry clothes. The airing room will vent up to solar chimney to see if that improves its efficiency at drawing air through secondary inlet from the house. Drawing up plans. Maybe it'll work. Bitcoin rewards to amortise solar faster, remove need for a dryer plus hopefully help airflow and reduce aircon use
